Sophia’s Comments
The career office facilitated an internship opportunity for me at MAALO-Gh, a fashion house in Accra. My work at MAALO-Gh was to assist the CEO, Ms. Juliet Kunfaa, in pattern drafting, sewing, beading, shopping for the items needed for sewing, among others. I sometimes helped in ironing and packaging as well. Over time, Ms. Kunfaa allowed me to draft patterns on my own as she noticed my improvement. My performance kept getting better as the days went by thanks to the confidence she developed in me.
Her words of encouragement and the way she treats you pushes you to want to do more. Ms. Kunfaa helped me to develop an interest in other aspects of fashion, like how to promote products and images on social media. She also helped me to develop my customer relations skills which is an essential aspect of any business.
One unique training I had at MAALO-Gh was how to use commercial patterns, how to make corsets, jackets, beading techniques, simple ways to draft sleeve blocks, choosing of colors and fabrics, arranging of motives when cutting, taking records after shopping, creating veils, petticoats, tacks when sewing a lace dresses and many more. Excitingly, finishing a project assigned to you at MAALO-Gh is one of the essential trademarks all trainees are eager to explore with great enthusiasm.
At the end of my internship, I was given a project to undertake, and I chose a smocking and quilting assignment, which requires more work. In fact, it got to a time I was tired and I wanted to give up because my design was complicated but Miss Juliet kept on telling me, "I know you can do it, you can do it". Her words of encouragement boosted my confidence and made me push extra to complete my design and learn more. Aside from the teaching, she also invited a counselor to counsel and give us tips on how to achieve our dreams.
Being able to intern at MAALO-Gh was a great opportunity provided by BlueCrest University College and I believe everything I’ve learnt will help me become the eminent Fashion Designer I want to be.

Supervisor’s comment;
It is our pleasure to endorse Miss Sophia Afadzie as “Career Development Icon” for the 2021 graduating class of Blue Crest College school of fashion and design (SFD).
We started working with Sophia after the new year break till school resumed on the 5th of April 2021, even with that she arranged to come when she did not have lecturers. Sophia was an all round personality at Maalo-Gh. She was always ready for the task, ready to learn new things and unlearn the unacceptable way of doing things as far as the fashion business is concerned.
She also went the extra mile to stay behind even after working hours so we could complete emergency orders from clients and this was one of the things I really appreciated during her time at Maalo-Gh. She respected the job and wanted to learn more.
She constantly demonstrated extensive interest to do more for the brand. At the middle of the internship I gave all the interns a task to be presented at the end of their internship period and she executed it so well. Sophia's suggestions to design ideas were also great. As a Brand we take delight in seeing the younger generation excel. Her time, dedication, humility, selflessness and the can do spirit makes her stand tall among her peers. Every great brand needs a good team player and that she is, hence an open employment offer has been given to her should she so choose after she is done with her Diploma at School of fashion and design (SFD).
We at Maalo-Gh are confident Sophia has come this far owing to the training acquired from a people driven educational institute like BlueCrest College.
We have no doubt she will continue to make a strong addition to our team if hired even after school. It’s our prayer she continues to find the energy and maturity she showed us her whole working career.
This exquisite design was the final art work of Maalo GH interns from BCC, School of Fashion. The three interns and the Managing Director of Maalo GH.
